Dolly-Parton
Dolly Parton, who was born in Locust Ridge Tenn. on Jan. 19. 1946, into a poor family with 12 kids at one point, realized that she could get away from the hardships of her life by using a vivid imagination. The songs she wrote were composed before she learned to write or read. The first time she picked up a guitar was at age 8 and started performing on a Knoxville Tenn radio station at the age of eleven. Gold Band Records is a small label that is independent. At the age of 16, she made herself known to the school community but her ambition was bigger. After graduating high school in 1964, she moved immediately to Nashville. Her first charting records for Monument Records included Dumb Blonde and Something Fishy both in 1967. Porter Wagoner had been looking for a female singer for his show that was syndicated at this point. Parton was a part of the Grand Ole Opry 1969 after signing with RCA Records. However she left Wagoner's show in 1974 as her solo songs like Joshua Coat of Many Colors and Jolene were charting collaborations with them. Parton following the breakup of their partnership with Wagoner was the one to write I Will Always Love You and had it reach No. First time, in 1974.
