Since her early years she was intrigued by the issue of gender identity and feminist thought. While still at school in 2009, she created her Feminist Frequency Website. It was a girl determined to make an online series which would explore gender roles in video games. However, she became victimized by online harassment. The attack did have been a hindrance, rather it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist media critic. Sarkeesian has been awarded several awards for her contributions to feministism.
